About US

Our history's most powerful movements teach us an important lesson: We won't win more by demanding less. So, we've got our sights set on the long term. While we fight for change here and now, we're also working to rebuild our economy and create a democracy for all of us.

We're organizing thousands of people around a bold agenda for real change. Our agenda isn't a list of policies the establishment says we can win. It reflects what communities Idaho must win.

Who We Are

Moving from Vision to Action, we advocate a bold agenda, not a list of policies the establishment says we can win, but what the people of Idaho and this country must win! We are building power for a new multi-racial, working class movement that centers Idaho in the local, state and national change we need and deserve. Our work is about creating  a world where rural, and  forgotten and dismissed parts of the country have a place at the table.  From cities to family farms, we are Idahoans committed to revisioning and remaking our democracy, but none of that matters so long as we don't have people and organizations fighting for us. For decades, we have been out funded and out organized and our intent is that it stops here by developing pivotal relationships and always fighting for Idahoans!

UVI is comprised of thousands of people who understand how critical it is to unite statewide efforts in an overarching strategy to win real improvements in people’s lives and center Idaho in the larger fights that make real change possible. We focus on institutional, policy and cultural transformation through political education, civic engagement, direct action, and strengthening relationships between diverse people and organizations. We know that uniting, engaging, and mobilizing individuals and communities across Idaho and the country requires deep relational organizing and building real connections with people and the issues and values that we all share. It requires organizations that have the integrity to invest in building real people power,

So we are building a people powered movement capable of achieving our shared goals, holding elected official and all those seeking office accountable to us. We are centering Idaho in the larger view of America and changing the cultural narrative to build connection between rural, suburban and urban communities. Together, we are advocating for the change we need and working to make the things we care about real.

Nothing About Us Without US.

When we say “poor and working people,” we mean all of us who are hurt by corporations and the wealthy few: poor people, low-income people, working class people, professionals, small business owners and unemployed people.

We mean Black, white, Latino, Asian and Native people.

We mean youth and students, and we mean retired people, elderly people and people with disabilities.

We mean men, women, transgender, and gender non-conforming.

We mean straight people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer people.

We mean citizens, and we mean immigrants.

We mean All of US.

SHOWING UP FOR RACIAL JUSTICE (SURJ)

Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is a national organization that brings hundreds of thousands of white people into fights for racial and economic justice.

THE HORIZONS PROJECT

The Horizons Project recognizes the urgency for this kind of movement to come together now in the United States. Our vision, mission and values represent our deep commitment to systems-level organizing with the existing ecosystem of social change: i.e., all those working for change with different priorities and from different vantage points across the ideological spectrum.

22ND CENTURY INITIATIVE

22nd Century Initiative is a project of Justice Work, a fiscally sponsored project of the National Center for Civic Innovation. The Initiative addresses the expansion and mainstreaming of white nationalism and other far right movements in the U.S. by developing strategies, networks, research, and actions that protect the integrity of our democracy.

NARRATIVE INITIATIVE

Narrative Initiative supports an emerging field of narrative change practitioners, researchers and trainers. We are exploring key openings where narrative can align movements, commissioning landscape assessments and research, and organizing strategy labs and global convenings to drive deeper collaboration. Every program and investment is designed to have long-lasting impact.

POLITICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

Political Research Associates (PRA) is a social justice research and strategy center. devoted to supporting organizations, civic leaders, journalists, and social sectors that are building a more just and inclusive democratic society. Over the past four decades, PRA has researched, monitored, and publicized the agenda and strategies of the U.S. and global Right, revealing the dangerous intersections of Christian nationalism, White nationalism, and patriarchy.

OVERZERO

Over Zero partners with community leaders, civil society, and researchers to harness the power of communication to prevent, resist and rise above identity-based violence and other forms of group-targeted harm.

RACE FORWARD

Race Forward catalyzes movement building for racial justice. In partnership with communities, organizations, and sectors, we build strategies to advance racial justice in our policies, institutions, and culture.

RACE FORWARD - HEAL TOGETHER

A  Race Forward initiative that is building a movement of students, educators, and parents in school districts across the United States who believe that an honest, accurate and fully funded public education is the foundation for a just, multiracial democracy.

HIGHLANDER RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CENTER

Highlander centers the experiences of directly-impacted people , knowing that together, we have the solutions to address the challenges we face in our communities and to build more just, equitable, and sustainable systems and structures. Our programming brings people together across issues, identity, and geography to share and build skills, knowledge, and strategies for transformative social change.

WOMENS MARCH

The mission of Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change.

WESTERN STATES CENTER

Our mission is to connect and build the power of community organizations; to challenge and transform individuals, organizations and systems to achieve racial, gender and economic justice.

THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER

dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

CHANGE LAB

a racial justice think tank based in Seattle, WA. We promote cross-sectoral analysis of the political, economic, cultural and ideological dimensions of race and racism in the United States, with a particular focus on Asian Americans.

BEND THE ARC

Bend the Arc is a movement of tens of thousands of progressive Jews all across the country. For years, we’ve worked to build a more just society. Now we’re rising up in solidarity with everyone threatened by the Trump agenda to fight for the soul of our nation.

THE CENTER FOR POPULAR DEMOCRACY

works to create equity, opportunity and a dynamic democracy in partnership with high-impact base-building organizations, organizing alliances, and progressive unions. CPD strengthens our collective capacity to envision and win an innovative pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda.

THE ECONOMIC POLICY INSTITUTE

conducts research and analysis on the economic status of working America.  EPI proposes public policies that protect and improve the economic conditions of low- and middle-income workers and assesses policies with respect to how they affect those workers.

THE MIDWEST ACADEMY

a national training institute committed to advancing the struggle for social, economic, and racial justice. From local neighborhood groups to statewide and national organizations, Midwest Academy has trained more than a quarter-million grassroots activists from hundreds of organizations and coalitions in organizing philosophy, methods and skills that enable ordinary people to actively participate in the democratic process.
